Pre-School Binder - with Links to make your own!
Having little children in the house is such a blessing. All the cuddles and unconditional love they give. The smallest things make them happy. They are also curious about everything and have a will to learn. It's true what they say, their little brains absorb everything like a sponge. This works to the advantage of a parent willing to teach!
Mud Pie! |
Enjoying the puddles |
Little children do most of their learning through play. So I encourage them to get muddy. Let them jump in the puddles. I get them in play clothes so they can enjoy getting dirty. They are new beings on this planet and are discovering the world through play. We should nurture that curiosity.
Did you know: Soil has a bacteria that releases dopamine in the brain which studies have shown to helps combat anxiety & depression. Studies have also show it to release neurons in the brain responsible for producing serotonin which can also improve your immune system. Happiness and health is in your yard
When to use the binder?
We use it for when my child has some downtime (during curbside pickup, after breakfast/lunch, before bedtime, raining days, ETC) we can wiggle in some "structure learning". For smaller kids it doesn't take much time out of the day. Even sitting down with them even for a couple minutes a day to go over their shapes and numbers will make a difference
What you'll need for your Pre-Kinder - Kinder Binder:
- Velcro Tape
- Whole Puncher
- Scissors
- Laminating Machine
- Laminating Pouches
- 1.5 inch Three Ring Binder or folder
Velcro can be ordered on Amazon. I found some at the Dollar Tree and I just cut it to the size I needed |
All these item can be bought at Walmart for about $50-$60 total |
Next you want to chose what to print out to put into the binder/folder. I will provide some link to the ones I found online in a minute. But if your child has certain interest, for example: Dinosaurs or Princesses, I would do some online research to print out some pages with those interest in mind. Again children learn best through play. So make the binder personal and fun. You also want to keep in mind to print out papers WITH the topics they should be learning.
Below is a basic list of what a child should know before Kinder
Names of the Colors and Shapes:
Recognizes primary colors
Recognizes circles, triangles,
squares /rectangles
Numbers:
Counts to 10
Writes numbers 1-5
Can count objects to 10
How long should we do the binder learning? Recognizes circles, triangles,
squares /rectangles
Numbers:
Counts to 10
Writes numbers 1-5
Can count objects to 10
Small children have a short attention span and so you can not expect them to sit still for too long. We do 10-15 minutes increments of sitting down learning or as soon as the child shows signs of being over it.
During the "structure learning" I teach mija her numbers, letters and shapes. This can also be done during play and reading time too! But for our "sit downs" we use our Pre-school Binder that, thanks to the internet, I was able to print and laminate and put it all in a binder to last a little longer. Because it is laminated my child can write over it with a dry erase marker. And the pages that have Velcro so she can match the pieces together. She really enjoys it. And at this age you want to make any type of learning fun. Teaching them with a positive attitude and making sure they are enjoying it will set them up for a lifelong love for learning.
I understand how motherhood can be so busy so I went ahead and included all the link I've used in our Pre-School Binder so you can print and make your own binder for your child below. Enjoy!
